It’s just so terrifying how your best friend can, in an instant, be close to death.

Yesterday my mother and I were having our regular stroll on the beach with her long haired chihuahua Iggy, labrador Ellie and my pomeranian Gizmo. All three dogs saw a usual buddy on the beach and they all barked and pranced about. Out of nowhere a large great dane came running down from one of the houses. In a second this dog had Gizmo in his mouth and thrashed him around from side to side and finally tossed him aside. Once tossed aside Gizmo started screaming and running away. His back legs seemed not to work, he was running with his front legs only and screaming the most horrifying cries I’ve ever heard.

My mother ran and screamed at the owner (who did absolutely nothing and still hasn’t.) His name is Michael and we are gonna have to hunt him down. Animals are animals, sadly there is nothing you can do when one gets out of line. I do not want the animal put to sleep … more like I want the owner put to sleep!!!! This guy Michael did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!! So fucked up.

UPDATE: MICHAEL HAS NOW BEEN IN TOUCH THANKFULLY AND IS BEING LOVELY THANKS TO EVERYONE.

My mother and I had to drive 30 minutes to a hospital because our local vet were complete idiots and of no help. Gizmo was bleeding and lost control of his bowels. He wasn’t moving and his eyes had glazed over. He looked absolutely lifeless. I drove while frantically crying. Our friend works at a VCA Animal Hospital in West LA. They were all incredible. They took Gizmo in and he had to have an emergency surgery on his abdomen. They opened him up to find he had serious internal bleeding and his muscles had tears. He had to have his liver removed. The vets keep saying he is lucky to be alive. Had the bite happened one inch over from where it was Giz would’ve been dead in minutes.

He survived surgery, blood transfusion, plasma transfusion and is now hooked up to everything possible. All I can do is pray to I don’t even know what … hope he makes it through.

Gizmo is a tiny pup but a strong one, that is for sure. He’s the love of my life. I don’t know what I’d do if he died. No one is telling me he’s fine and going to make it … he’s still in critical condition. He was drugged up but he still got excited to see me. He licked my hand and whimpered when I was with him.

That’s all we know now. I will visit him every day and keep hoping for more good news.

EXTRA NOTE: I love great danes. I’ve had large dogs my whole life. Gizmo is my first little one. I do not hold anything against this animal or specific animals, the owner is who I’m furious at. If my dog attacked someone’s dog I would help in any way I could and make the payments too. This guy has done NOTHING!! I’m disgusted.
